Consultation dietitians work independently to provide nutrition services and educational programs to Al-Ahli Hospital’s Guests and their families, and they are as the following:
Nutritional and diet counseling for the following cases: Obesity, Hypo and Hypertension, Diabetes type 1 and 2, Gestational diabetes, Dyslipidaemia, Gout, Ulcers, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Post Gastric banding, Post Gastric Bypass, Constipation, Diarrhea, Renal Disease, Kidney stones, Acid reflux, Hypothyroidism, Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS), Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), Post Menopause, Lactose intolerance, Gluten Enteropathy (Celiac Disease), Food Allergies, Skin and Hair wellbeing, Vitamins and/or mineral deficiencies, sports nutrition, Nutrition requirements during different life stages such as childhood, adolescence, pregnancy, and lactation and vegetarianism.
Develop individualized diet plans for guests based on their anthropometric measurements, nutritional requirements, lifestyle, food preferences and health problems.
Teach guests and their families about nutrition, diet, food shopping and proper food selection and certain healthy food alternatives.
Emphasize on the important of daily exercise, mental and spiritual wellbeing, positive thinking and stress management, natural free-of-toxins life style and proper nutrition on the overall human wellbeing.
Compile and develop educational materials and use them as aids in providing nutritional instructions.
Below are detailed services carried out in the clinic:
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Initial Consultation 300 QR
The appointment starts with a review of medical, nutrition and weight history. The consultation involves nutrition education for the specific medical concern that the client presents with. The initial session is 1 hour and follow-up is recommended. Some individuals may require more than one appointment to understand the dietary guidelines that are presented.
Weight Management (Child/Adolescent Individual) 300 QR
It is one-time consultation to discuss the eating habits of the client and his entire family. Parents or guardians are encouraged to be present at this appointment. Techniques for helping the family eat better and for helping the child manage his/her weight will be discussed. Follow-up is highly recommended.
6-Week Weight loss Program (Adult) 1200 QR
This program starts with a detailed one-hour initial consultation and includes five 30 minute sessions over a six week period. Aside from a wealth of information included in these sessions which helps in losing weight, the client is monitored and motivated to continue to work toward their specific goals. During this weight loss program, the client will receive an individualized meal plan, assessment of calories and nutrient needs, tips for eating out, nutrition education to help the client understand techniques to prevent Plateau, help with recipe modification (as needed), how to read food labels, and other tips individual to each guest.
6-Week Lifestyle Change/Weight Loss Program (Family) 1400 QR
Does the entire family need a makeover? If so, this program is for you. Families will learn how to eat better, cook healthier and work together to motivated each other to maintain a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. During this weight loss program, the clients will receive an individualized meal plan, Healthy eating guidelines, tips for eating out, and other tips individual to each client. This includes an initial 1 hour consultation with five-30 minute follow-up sessions.minute follow up session.
Follow-Up Nutrition Consultation (per session) 150 QR
Clients have the opportunity to continue follow-up advice and monitoring to help stay on track with their nutrition plan.
Follow-Up Nutrition Consultation (3sessions) 375 QR
Follow-Up is highly encouraged to meet goals
Clients have the opportunity to pre-pay for 3 follow-up sessions at a reduced rate.
In-house guest Dietary clinic provides the following services:
- Daily In-house guest visits.
- Providing dietary consultation upon request by the doctor.
- Liaising with the dietitian in charge regarding the progress of patients.
- Obtaining patients dietary history and recording progress.
- Therapeutic and normal tray line monitoring.
- Formulating menus for therapeutic diets.
- Improving the existing menus to cater to guests’ requirements.
- Nutritional screening training for newly appointed nurse.
- Improving the existing facilities (e.g. creating pamphlets for guest’s awareness of good dietary practices).
- Preparing presentations on nutrition-related topics.
- Compiling articles on nutrition related topics for general awareness among public (e.g. food and mental performance in children)
- Working on improvement of facilities for the wards (e.g. hand outs for pediatric wards on healthy eating for children).
Food Service-Management Dietary division provides the following services:
- Plan menus for guest and staff and make sure that meals are nutritional, varied and attractive.
- Prepare the diet order for the breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, in consistence with the in-house guests’ preferences, tolerance and dietary needs.
- Make routine visits for the in-house guests to assess food acceptance and arrange for special diet orders.
- Supervise food assembly on the tray line.
- Make sure that the meals provide the correct nutrients.
- Check the flavor and appearance of the food.
- Supervise employees and the way they serve food.
- Supervise employees responsible for portion control standards and distribution of food from central preparation areas to outlying serving areas.
- Arrange the purchase of special foods required by clinical dietitians.
- Advise hospital catering departments about the specific dietary requirements of guests.
- Perform tutoring sessions for the kitchen staff on therapeutic diets, food preparation and portion standardization.
- Assist the Executive Chef in the development and review of all menus and the evaluation of the guest’s acceptance in accordance with the clinical dietitians.
- Assist and supervise the cooking staff in developing, testing and revising general or therapeutic recipes.
