Al Ahli Hospital successfully conducted a complicated prostate procedure recently. A four-hour, Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy was performed on a 63-year-old man with prostate cancer, making it the first to be performed in any private hospital in Qatar .
Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy is a surgical procedure in which the prostate gland is removed through an incision in the abdomen. It is the most common technique for removing the prostate gland and surrounding tissues. The surgeon makes an incision in the lower abdomen to remove the prostate, which is located retropubically, or behind the pubic bone.

First Spinal Surgery

Al Ahli Hospital successfully conducted its first spinal surgery recently. The 40-minute Spinal Microdiscectomy procedure was performed on a 62-year -old man with slip of intervertebral disc slip (disc prolapse).
The intervertebral discs are circular pads of tissue that separate the bones of the spinal column (vertebrae). These discs consist of a jelly-like centre encapsulated in a fibrous coating and act as shock absorbers between the vertebrae to soften the pressure forces in the back especially when someone is running, bending and lifting.

AAH set for expansion

The Al-Ahli Hospital plans to go in for a major expansion in the next two years, with more beds, new buildings and increased staff.

Philippines Asian Hospital

Al-Ahli Hospital here showed interest in having tie-ups with the Philippines’ Asian Hospital in Manila yesterday during a meeting with Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“We visited the Asian Hospital and we would like to have tie-ups with them and probably come up with an exchange visiting arrangement of staff or have a training exchange,” said Russell Mason, Al-Ahli Hospital’s chief operating officer, during the meeting at Sheraton Doha, which was attended by chief executive officers and high-level executives of several companies that employ Filipino workers.

Preterm delivery success

AL AHLI Hospital has safely delivered a preterm baby by Caesarean section.
The baby, which was delivered 12 weeks before the expected date, was resuscitated at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit where she received a replacement therapy that help such premature’s lung to breath effectively, a hospital spokesperson said.
